Investigation of serious aviation incident over Bavaria in Germany
On the afternoon of 31 May 2026, LN-ENL was en route from Milan Malpensa Airport, Italy to Oslo Airport Gardermoen, Norway. At FL360 over Bavaria, Germany, the aircraft encountered severe turbulence. During the few seconds of shaking due to turbulence, a cabin crew member was seriously injured.
The investigation is delegated from the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) , which represents the 'state of occurrence', to the Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority (NSIA), which represents the 'state of operator'.
The investigation will clarify the sequence of events and the contributing factors to the incident. Based on this, the NSIA will assess areas for improving safety.
It is not the NSIA’s task to apportion blame or liability under criminal or civil law. The purpose of the investigation is solely to contribute to learning and the prevention of serious incidents and accidents.
