On Wednesday 4 September 2024, a helicopter, a Bell 206 Long Ranger, crashed during landing in mountainous terrain south of Susendal in Hattfjelldal. During the landing, the helicopter entered a "Dynamic Rollover" situation and ended up lying on its right side.
The mission was to fly out wooden planks as sling cargo, for the improvement of a mountain path south of Susendal in Hattfjelldal municipality.
In connection with landing in the terrain, the rear part of the right skid hit the ground earlier than the pilot had expected. The helicopter then quickly entered a situation with a "Dynamic Rollover" and tipped over to the right hand side.
The helicopter suffered extensive damage and the helicopter's task specialist bled heavily from the head and suffered minor head injuries.
The accident occurred in a deserted area with limited communication options. The Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority is therefore issuing a safety recommendation to the Inland Helicopter Forum (SFI) to set clear requirements in its orders to achieve the desired safety level, adapted to the individual mission.

On 4 September 2024, a Bell 206L1 helicopter with registration SE-JPB encountered an accident at Susenfjellet in Hattfjelldal. It was only by chance that the accident did not end up with fatalities from head injuries.
The operator had not brought survival equipment in accordance with SPO.IDE.H.200. The helicopter was equipped with an ELT that does not transmit position and no possibilities for emergency communication, such as a satellite phone was carried on board. The helicopter operator had an installed GSM-based tracking system but was outside GSM coverage when the accident occurred. The mission was under the auspices of a major government contracting authority.
The Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority recommends the Inland Helicopter Forum (SFI) to set clear requirements in its orders to achieve the desired safety level adapted to the individual missions.
