On Thursday, 15 May 2025, the propellers of LN-KPL, hit the runway during a landing attempt with the landing gear retracted.
In the afternoon of Thursday, 15 May 2025, a training flight was conducted from Sandefjord airport Torp, which was concluded with touch and go's. A landing attempt was performed with the landing gear retracted, and the propellers hit the runway. The pilot immediately aborted the landing attempt, performed a go-around and a short circuit to land at Torp.
Forgetting to deploy the landing gear is not an uncommon error or lapse. Therefore, several measures are in place to ensure that this is detected before landing. The investigation has found that there were several factors that contributed to the landing gear being forgotten and not being detected by the instructor. One factor was the design of the landing gear warning system on the Piper Seneca II. The investigation has also looked at general issues related to risk assessment and risk control of training flights, including the relationship between student and instructor.
