Investigation of a serious railway incident on the Ekeberg line, Oslo

On Monday 12 February 2024, a tractor trailer with rail wheels rolled down uncontrolled from the Ekebergparken tram stop in the direction of the city centre. The incident took place during construction work, while the track was closed to ordinary traffic.

The tractor trailer collided with an excavator in the track, and stopped, approximately 250 meters further down.

There were no injuries in the collision. There was minor material damages to the tractor trailer and excavator.

The investigation will clarify the sequence of events and point to possible causal relationships. Any underlying circumstances that may have contributed to the incident will be clarified and analysed.

The purpose of the investigation is to contribute with learning that can be used in the work to improve safety.
