Report on serious incident at Reinsvoll airport, Norway (ENRV) 23. January 2016 involving Cessna 172S, LN-AGT

Shortly after take-off from Reinsvoll Airport 23 January 2016, a pilot, only qualified for flying under visual flight conditions (VMC), flew in to instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) and nearly had a loss of control. The pilot did not succeed in returning to the airport. There were no other nearby airports with VMC. The control of the aircrafts position was lost, but the pilot got assistance from air traffic control to fly to Fagernes airport Leirin (ENFG), which had good weather conditions. The aircraft landed at Leirin with relativly low remaining fuel. AIBN recommends that Good Aviation Practice information material is reintroduced and actively used by aero clubs in their aviation safety work.

The AIBN believes that the incident at Reinsvoll is one example in a series of events where lack of good airmanship has been a factor in general aviation. Through their EGAST, EASA has issued various information material that the AIBN believes is important literature and contributions to raising awareness around aviation safety.
The Accident Investigation Board Norway recommends the Norwegian Air Sports Association (NLF), to update and reintroduce Good Aviation Practice (GAP) information material and to encourage the clubs to actively use this material in their aviation safety work.
