Report on aviation accident at Laksefjordvidda in Finnmark, Norway on 12 September 2017 with Airbus Helicopters AS 350 B3, LN-OTR, operated by Helitrans AS
Aviation report 2020/08
Tuesday 12 September 2017, the helicopter tipped over on its right side after it was landed in a slightly sloped terrain. There were one pilot and three passengers on board the helicopter. All four occupants evacuated unharmed from the helicopter. The AIBN considers it most likely that the helicopter tipped over as a result of "dynamic rollover" following a lateral movement in connection with landing. The AIBN believes that safety during landing would have been enhanced if a "task specialist" had been present on board.
During the evacuation, the commander had to assist a passenger who was unable to loosen the seat belt. The Accident Investigation Board points out the importance of crew members wearing helmets and thus having a greater chance of aiding passengers when an accident happen.
The investigation has not found any evidence of technical malfunctions or deficiencies in the helicopter or that weather conditions were a factor in the accident.
