Report on serious glider incident near Starmoen airport, Norway, 16 April 2019, involving Schempp-Hirth DISCUS 2B, LN-GDE

On Tuesday 16. April 2019 the glider was on tow out of Starmoen Airport when the canopy shattered. The pilot received minor injuries. He was able to return to Starmoen Airport and perform a normal landing. A Sailplane Section of the Norwegian Air Sports Federation (S/NLF) investigation suggests that the canopy locking mechanism loosened, leading to the canopy opening and being shattered.
