Investigation of aviation accident at Susenfjellet in Hattfjelldal, Nordland county

On Wednesday 4 September 2024, a helicopter, a Bell 206 Long Ranger, crashed during landing in mountainous terrain south of Susendal in Hattfjelldal.

The mission was to transport wooden planks (klopper) as long line cargo, for the improvement of a mountain path south of Susendal in Hattfjelldal municipality. 

During landing out in the terrain, the helicopter suddenly tipped over on its right side and was heavily damaged. Both main rotor blades hit the ground, the main rotor mast snapped, the tail boom snapped, windows in the cockpit were smashed and several doors were heavily damaged. On board there was a pilot and a task specialist. Both on board survived without serious injuries. The person sitting in the left front seat suffered head injuries. No one used a helmet. Ground personnel working on the same project quickly arrived at the scene of the accident and contacted the rescue service. 

The NSIA has carried out investigations at the site, and transported the helicopter wreckage out of the area.
