Report on aviation accident near Andøya, Norway, on 24 January 1976 with Piper PA-28-180 Cherokee, LN-DAC
Aviation report 1977/07
At 1732 local time on 24 January in 1976 LN-DAC took off from Andenes for a VFR night flight to Stokmarknes airport. The pilot was alone on board, and the plan was to pick up two passengers at Stokmarknes and return to Andenes with them. The aircraft never reached Stokmarknes. The rescue center in Northen Norway organised a search over the next three days but was not able to localise the aircraft. A few months later, in April, a few aircraft parts believed to belong to LN-DAC was found on the northern tip of Hinnøya, and the accident investigation board assumed the aircraft had crashed in the ocean somewhere between Andenes and Stokmarknes. The cause of the accident remains unknown.
