Report on accident at Kjeller Airport, Norway 31 May 2016 with DeHavilland DH-82A Tiger Moth, LN-BDM

Aviation report 2016/10

On 31 May 2016 a DeHavilland DH-82A Tiger Moth was, during landing, substantially damaged in the area of the left main undercarriage mounting.

The aircraft was established on final to the grasshoulder beside the runway. On a Tiger Moth, the pilot has limited forward view when the aircraft nose is raised before landing. The pilot in command was blinded due to low sun on the horizon just before touchdown. The aircraft came in a little low and the airspeed dropped. This caused the left main wheel to hit an asphalt edge to a taxiway with substantial force.

This report is in Norwegian only.

No safety recommendation is issued in connection with this investigation.
