The helicopter was on its way from Kvinesdal to Kjeller when it hit a power line that crossed the road at 13 meters hight and fell down on the road shoulder. The commander, who was alone on board, was fataly injured. The helicopter suffered extensive damage.
It was getting dark and there were heavy rain showers in the area. Several witnesses had observed the helicopter flying at low altitude shortly before the accident occured. A video camera belonging to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration captured the last seconds of the flight until the helicopter hit the power line.

During the investigation, the NSIA has not found any faults or irregularities in the helicopter that may have had an impact on the sequence of events.
