Helicopter accident near Barentsburg: The AIBN leaves the accident site

Following the accident with the helicopter Mi-8AMT with registration RA-22312, the AIBN has recovered the helicopters body, tail, Cocpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and GPS units. Damaged parts of the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) have been found. The memory unit of the FDR is not found. Based on the condition of the recovered parts of the FDR, the search for the memory unit will no longer continue.

The CVR and the GPS-units have been transported to Moscow by the AIBN in cooperation with Russian MAK (Interstate Aviation Committee) for reading and analysis.

The wreckage will in the next few days be transported to the Norwegian mainland for further investigations.

The search for missing persons is administrated by the Governor of Svalbard and the Police. The AIBN thanks all involved parties for the cooperation these past weeks.
