Report on aviation accident at Kirkedalsvatn on Frøya 13 April 1974 with Cessna F172H, LN-VIE

The pilot had a passenger with him who was supposed to assist in dropping newspapers to permanent residents and cabin owners on Frøya and Hitra. There were turbulent wind conditions and the wind strength was estimated to be approx. 25 kt. According to the commander, the aircraft was in a slight left turn when the nose, due to downdrafts, suddenly dropped . The pilot was unable to prevent the aircraft from colliding with the water. The pilot suffered head and back injuries. The passenger could not swim and was later found drowned at a depth of 12-15 metres.
