Report on air accident at Moss airport Rygge, Norway, 16 July 2008 with Eurocopter AS 350 BA, LN-ORK
Aviation report 2013/11 eng
An instructor was about to perform an operators proficiency check with two pilots from the company Midtnorsk Helikopterservice. The helicopter arrived Moss airport Rygge and the instructor moved the Fuel Flow Control Lever out of the "flight gate" to simulate an autorotation. About 80 ft above ground, when repositioning the Fuel Flow Control Lever to terminate the simulation, the engine did not respond to the increased power demand. The rotor RPM decreased and the landing became somewhat harder than normal leading to a fracture in the rotorhead Starflex. No findings on the engine can explain the loss of engine power. However, the power loss can be explained by an improper operation of the Fuel Flow Control Lever.
