Investigation of marine casuality north of Vardø involving one of the Norwegian Coast Guards tender vessels
The NSIA has decided to investigate the accident where a tender from Norwegian a coast guard vessel capsized north of Vardø on 24 March 2026.
A tender vessel from the Norwegian Coast Guard capsized after a routine fisheries inspection and five people ended up in the water. None of the five sustained serious injuries.
The investigation will clarify the sequence of events, identify safety issues and map the contributing factors to the accident. Based on this, the NSIA will assess areas for improving safety.
