Investigation of a serious shooting incident at the Rødsmoen Shooting and Training Range
On 15 April 2026, an employee was struck in the eye during an exercise involving the use of simunition ammunition at the Rødsmoen training area.
During an exercise that included clearing a position, one of the participants experienced fogging on their protective eyewear and lifted the glasses to improve visibility. At that moment, the employee was struck in the left eye by a simunition round.
The injury resulted in permanent loss of vision in the left eye.
The NSIA has opened an investigation to clarify what happened and identify contributing factors. The investigation will also assess areas for improving safety.
