Investigation of vehicle accident in Frigård shooting and training range, Stjørdal municipality
The Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority (NSIA) has initiated a safety investigation into the accident involving a military ambulance at Frigård shooting and training range on 29 October 2026. One person died in the accident.
During an exercise in the Armed Forces, a stationary military ambulance came into motion on a gravel area with several parked vehicles. A military employee was trapped under the ambulance and died.
Preliminary information given to NSIA is that the deceased person most likely handled the ambulance on his own when the vehicle got in motion. There were personnel nearby, but no eyewitnesses to the incident itself. First aid was initiated immediately after the accident.
The investigation will clarify the sequence of events and the contributing factors to the incident/accident. Based on this, the NSIA will assess areas for improving safety.
It is not the NSIA’s task to apportion blame or liability under criminal or civil law. The purpose of the investigation is solely to contribute to learning and the prevention of serious incidents and accidents.
