Investigation of occupational accident, fall over board from the fishing vessel Øyværing east of Kabelvåg

The Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority has decided to investigate the accident with the fishing vessel Øyværing. On 1 March 2024 a fisherman fell overboard from the fishing vessel Øyværing and died as a consequence of this.

At around 13:00 a vessel was observed from shore that had run aground on the island Kreta outside Kabelvåg. A rescue operation was then initiated. Some time later, the fisherman was observed in the sea by another fishing vessel in the area where one of the fisherman's nets had been set. A rescue vessel arrived and transported the fisherman to shore and then on to hospital in Tromsø.
