Report on hull damage on M/V Sollifjell, Hustadvika 24 March 2010

The passenger vessel MS Sollifjell is a High Speed catamaran built in carbon composites. The vessel is a new concept with a known underwater carriage. The vessel was delivered to the owner Veolia at the shipyard 22. March 2010. Two days later Sollifjell was severely damaged in the bow area after encountering waves on its maiden voyage from the shipyard to its operating area in North Norway. The operating permit given by the Norwegian Maritime Directorate was immediately withdrawn, as the vessel was in non-operating condition.
