Investigation of railway accident by Trondheim station on the Dovrebanen Line

On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, SJ Norge AS's train 425 derailed at Trondheim station due to a broken rail. There were passengers on board, but no injuries occurred.

Video from the scene shows that the crack in the rail was developing prior to the incident. The train was traveling at approximately 30 km/h at the time of the derailment and derailed with four bogies. 

The derailment had consequences for traffic flow to and from the station and trains had to be diverted via the Stavne - Leangenbanen Line. 

The investigation will map the sequence of events and possible causal factors that may have contributed to the incident. 

The purpose of the investigation is to contribute learning that can be used in efforts to improve safety.
