Investigation of battery fire in carry-on baggage at Oslo airport Gardermoen

On 14 October 2025 SE-RUR, an Airbus A320 operated by SAS, was scheduled for a domestic flight from Oslo airport Gardermoen (ENGM) to Bergen airport Flesland (ENBR). During boarding a fire started in carry-on baggage.

SE-RUR was scheduled as SK295 from Oslo til Bergen, and approximately 50 passengers had boarded when smoke was spotted coming from a suitcase belonging to a passanger.  A fire was identified.

The cabin was evacuated. Cockpit crew put on oxygen masks and Cabin Crew put on smokehoods, then a fire extinguisher was used inside the suitcase. The suitcase was carried out by the cabin crew and taken care of by airport Fire & Rescue. Police seized the suitcase.

8 persons were brought to hospital for medical supervision after breathing smoke from the fire.
