Aviation report 2013/12

The accident happened when a historical Spitfire fighter was about to land at Tynset airfield, Norway. The aircraft was too high and fast when it crossed the threshold and settled firmly on the ground only after having passed the threshold with 580 meters. It then continued into a barley field to the left of the runway and flipped onto its back. The pilot was fatally injured. The AIBN has not succeeded in finding a clear causal factor to why the accident took place. Nothing indicates that the accident was caused by a technical failure on the airplane. The possibility of the pilot being incapacitated or subject to temporary reduced vigilance cannot be ruled out. The investigation or the autopsy has not, however, revealed any factors that can support such a theory.
