Investigation of marine accident, occupational accident, near Stamsund in Lofoten

The Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority has decided to investigate the accident with the fishing vessel Gunn Lotte, LM299 on 26 January 2024. The fishing vessel lost propulsion and drifted ashore. The fisherman fell overboard during the rescue operation, and died as a consequence of this.

The fisherman was out to pull the fishing line that had been set the day before, when the fishing vessel lost propulsion.

The fisherman sent out a distress call while the vessel drifted towards shore.
A rescue vessel arrived shortly after the fisherman ran aground. During the rescue operation, the fisherman fell overboard. The rescue vessel grounded, but a rescuer jumped into the sea and tried to rescue the fisherman ashore. Another rescue vessel arrived and got the fisherman on board. The fisherman was transported to Stamsund and then on to hospital. The fisherman died as a result of the accident.
