Investigation of an occupational accident off the coast of Stavanger
The Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority (NSIA) have decided to investigate the work accident on board the cargo vessel Eidsvaag Marin on 29 October 2025, where a crew member lost their life following a crush injury.
The accident occurred in connection with repair work on the vessel’s excavator. When the situation was discovered, the vessel sailed to the quay in Dusavika, where they received assistance from the emergency services. CPR was initiated, but the crew member could not be resusciated.
The investigation will clarify the sequence of events and the contributing factors to the accident. Based on this, the NSIA will assess areas for improving safety.
It is not the NSIA’s task to apportion blame or liability under criminal or civil law. The purpose of the investigation is solely to contribute to learning and the prevention of serious incidents and accidents.
