Report on marine accident - Fishing vessel Kim Roger grounded and foundered east of Lofotodden 4 January 2016
Marine report 2016/07
The fishing vessel grounded and foundered outside Lofotodden after the fishing net got tangled in the propeller. The crew of 5 were saved and taken to Bodø hospital for a health check.
The vessel was very close to shore with strong onshore wind and current when it lost propulsion. The vessel therefore drifted quickly towards shore. Kim Roger grounded and sank just east of Lofotodden.
The AIBN does not issue any safety recommendations in connection with the investigation, but emphasizes the importance of notifying the emergency services as early as possible in an emergency situation.
