Investigation of a fire in a passenger coach near Bromma, between Nesbyen and Bergheim stations on Bergensbanen
On 7 April 2026, a fire occurred in a passenger coach (B7-4) on Vygruppen’s train 602, operating from Bergen to Oslo. After the train had come to a stop at the former Bromma station, a fully developed fire broke out in the coach. The fire spread to an adjacent coach, and smoke damage was sustained by a third coach.
Train personnel evacuated passengers from the affected coach to adjacent coaches while the train was in motion. In addition, notifications were made to the train dispatcher and subsequently to the emergency services. It was decided to stop at the former Bromma station, where conditions were suitable for evacuation and firefighting.
After the train had come to a stop, the three coaches affected by the fire were uncoupled, and the remainder of the train was moved away to ensure safety. Subsequently, the heat from the fire caused the catenary line to burn through.
The investigation will clarify the sequence of events and identify possible causal factors. Any underlying circumstances that may have contributed to the incident will be identified and analyzed.
The purpose of the investigation is to contribute lessons learned that can be used in efforts to improve safety.
