Report on aircraft accident in Namnå in Grue municipality, Hedmark county 15 July 2016, involving Allstar PZL Glider SZD-55-1, LN-GAZ

Aviation report 2017/04

On 15 July 2016 a sailplane had a field landing during a cross-country competition task. The right wing broke when the sailplane landed in a grain field. The pilot, and sole occupant, was not injured.

The sailplane was transported to the AIBN premises for further technical examination. The AIBN received assistance from a Swedish sailplane workshop. Based on these examinations, the AIBN finds that the right wing broke as a result of overstress from landing in a field with tall grains, and that there were probably no pre-existing damage to the wing structure.

No safety recommendation is issued in connection with this investigation.
