Investigation of collision involving a truck-mounted crane and a pedestrian bridge on the FV 5210 road in Bergen
The Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority (NSIA) has launched a safety investigation into the accident where a truck with a crane drove into a pedestrian bridge on fv. 5210 in Olsvik in Bergen municipality on 31 July 2023. Parts of the bridge collapsed, and the driver of the truck died in the accident.
On the morning of 31 July 2023, a truck with a crane drove north on the fv. 5210 road. The crane that was mounted behind the cab of the truck was not folded, and hit the pedestrian bridge that crossed the fv. 5210 road with the main arm. The bridge was a girder bridge with a free-standing main support system, where a DT concrete element was located approximately 4.8 meters above the road surface. The impact caused the concrete element to fall onto the truck's cab.
The investigation will clarify the sequence of events, identify safety issues and map the contributing factors to the accident. Based on this, the NSIA will assess areas for improving safety.

Status of investigation
The investigation is still ongoing. Some work remains to be done with quality assurance of factual information, analysis and conclusions before the report can be finalized and published.
