Investigation of collision between a passenger car and a heavy goods vehicle on national highway 7 in Flå

The Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority (NSIA) has initiated a safety investigation into the collision between a passenger car and a heavy goods vehicle on national highway 7 in the center of Flå on 21 May 2024. There were five people in the passenger car, where two of the passengers sitting in the back seat were critically injured and the others were minorly to seriously injured.

The investigation will clarify the sequence of events, and the factors that contributed to the extent of injuries in the accident. The vehicles' construction and safety equipment will be examined with regard to the collision forces in the accident. Based on this, the NSIA will assess areas for improving safety.

Status of investigation

The NSIA has completed the investigation and prepared a draft report that will be sent for external consultation to affected parties. The NSIA will then review the comments receiced and decide which inputs will be included in the report before it is finalised for publication.
