Investigation of a head-on collision involving two heavy goods vehicles (HGV) on county road 33 in Etnedal

The Norwegian Safety Investigation Authority (NSIA) has initiated a safety investigation into the head-on collision between two HGVs on the fv. 33 road, Tonsåslinna, near Flaggfjell in Etnedal municipality on 30 Oktober 2024. One of the drivers was critically injured, while the passenger in the other HGV was seriously injured.

In the morning of 30 October 2024, an HGV drove southeast, and another HGV drove northwest on the fv. 33 road. At Flaggfjell, the two vehicles collided head-on in a straight section of the road. Both vehicles remained in the roadway after the collision. The speed limit was 80 km/h. The road surface at the accident site was not salted, and the road surface was reported to be very slippery.

The investigation will clarify the sequence of events, identify safety issues and map the contributing factors to the accident. Based on this, the NSIA will assess areas for improving safety.
